Thank you Brew City!
What a day! KUSD Theater Arts has been very busy this weekend. The wonder on wheels, Xanadu, is in it's second weekend, and everyone is coming out humming 80's tunes and dreaming of big hair and glam rock. Peter and the Starcatchers opened yesterday, and though the crowds were small, the magic was big. Who didn't dream of being a lost boy as a kid? We've got a whole new generation hooked, as it were. We also welcomed the Brew City Wrestlers to Bradford today for what we hope will be the First Annual Bradford Brawl. Home Town Hero JP won a surprise victory in a spontaneous battle royal after his Brew City Bruiser friend insulted the honor of his alma mater. In a bench clearing brew haha that delighted the crowd of Bullen boys in the ring side seats, JP tossed his former friend out of the ring to the chants of "Bradford! Bradford!". It was a great day to be on the North Side.

A Little Swash, a Little Buckle....
It may not look like much now, but soon it will be pirates and privateers, daring damsels and lost boys. Peter and The Starcatcher opens in two weeks and creating the uber creative mind space the show needs has been a challenge. And a delight. Who wouldn't want to play in this sand box?
The script is all about story telling, the reality is all about thrift. It is a set of recycled parts. The ladders that support the masts are from our standard false proscenium, last seen last season as the set of Hello! My Baby.
We dug out our rake supports, built for us years ago by Stuart Johnson and used multiple times since, rearranged them into the two raised decks.
The 10' space saving escape stairs built for the upper deck of In the Heights lay down to become walkable, sturdy railings.
I think this ladder was left over by the company that installed the original ceiling. We found it hiding in a drop down behind a wall in the cat walk.
We did buy fresh lumber to build the stage extension. Sometimes you just gotta do that.
Especially if you plan to put a 15' trough in it.
Trap doors are grid sections from the Bat Boy towers.
And can anyone spot the Little Mermaid bits?
Inch by inch, it's coming together. Like Cinderella's mice-made dress, we're making it from scratch. Stay tuned for the final product!

Find Raiser Madness!
Today I offer a big Thank You to Pete's Place and the parents who arranged a really high spirited and very successful fundraiser. Regulars and new comers alike enjoyed food, drinks, live music, raffles and games and raised almost $2,000.00 for the students who participated. It was truly wonderful to enjoy the company of new friends and old while working toward a worthy cause.
Next up, the Brew City Wrestlers take over the Bradford Field house on April 23 at 3pm for what I know will be a roof raising show! $10.00 general admission. We'll see you there!
